Town of Highlands Information

The town of Highlands consists of the village of Highland Falls, the hamlet of Fort Montgomery, and West Point. Outside of West Point's main Thayer Gate, the Town of Highlands is situated less than an hour from New York City and is nestled between the Bear Mountain State Park and the West Point Military Academy. Due to its proximity to 3 other counties (Westchester & Putnam) via the Bear Mountain Bridge, (Rockland) via the Palisades Interstate Parkway, and the NYS Thruway, the Town of Highlands is an excellent commuter location. Set along the scenic western banks of the Hudson River and surrounded by the lush parks and lakes of the NY State Park Authority, the area offers countless outdoor and recreational activities. But its proximity to New York City and the historic United States Military Academy at West Point, lends sophistication to the town, that you will see in the local restaurants and shops on Main Street. No wonder the Town of Highlands is often referred to as “Home Town U.S.A.”
